What you can do...

The proposed bike path is not the real challenge. It can and should be made a workable project.

The real problem is the processes and assumptions that created this version in the first place: the continued addiction of government agencies to the concept that “bigger is better”, the municipal habit of outsourcing its planning to people who don’t know anything about Rincón, the lack of intra-agency communication and the attitude that the public’s opinions and ideas are not required after they vote.

This is surely an area where our opinions matter. These beaches belong to the people of Rincón. We should raise our voices if they are threatened by developers or the government.

Call, write or visit the "owners" of this project:

Urge Mayor Carlos Lopez, Governor Acevedo Vila, the Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration to redesign the bike path with community input.

Shouldn't you include some media coverage on the letters?

The Mayor knows what he is doing. He has consulted specialists and wouldn't build something if he knew it could harm anyone or anything.

So, chill out people!

Who cares if you think it is overpriced??? The US Government donated 5 or 6million dollars for the project. The local government is only going to pay a million or so. If the total amount is assigned to this project then they MUST use it for this project only.

This is a wonderful idea that will attract tourists and promote family unity and good health.

Mayor Lopez, I support you and the bike path!

I have been visiting Rincon for the past 5 years and 2 years ago bought property here. In just this short amount of time I have seen alarming beach erosion and property overdevelopment. I am told that the mayor "will support any project that brings tourism to Rincon". As a visitor, I have to say that in your attempt to promote tourism Mr. Mayor, you are destroying the very things that draw people to Rincon, and this poorly conceived bike "path" is just the latest example.
