Go back to the drawing board immediately - create a sensible redesign
Make it a path; not a road
Move the Path back to the old Train Right of Way (see map below)
Scale it down & Set it back from the beach and Reserva Marina Tres Palmas
Eliminate the extraneous elements of the path (fences, guardrails, gabions, seawalls, whale observation tower, plazoletas)
Integrate the bike path with other Municipal projects including Ojo del Agua Parking, Plaza de la Amistad, El Faro / Lighthouse renovations, the Plaza del Mercados and the Public Plaza and Alcaldia Renovations.

Excellent expose'! Thank you Surfrider Fundacion' for bringing this to our attention. I have been waiting for the bikepath since arriving in Rincon' in 1992. To have it finally realized as this proposed monstrous boondoggle would be an understated disappointment. The proposal is devoid of any sensibility for biking, the environment, and the people of Rincon'. Change it we must. www.tropical-treehouse.com
Does anyone know whether the "owners" of the Domes trail, including Mr. Rich are even willing to sell that piece of their property??? I'm under the impression that they're not.
Isn't there already an existing bike path?? It may not be munincipal, but I know its there. Why dont they just make that one nicer?
Is there really such a high demand for places to ride bikes?Is it really important to ride bikes next to the Ocean?If it is the view that people want there is lots of land in Altalaya with amazing views.This would spread the tourism dollar further inland and help the Island push there tourism slogan "Explore beyond the beach".The town of Rincon has a hard time keeping the roads repaired and clean.What would prevent this "Trail"from turning into a run down eye soar.After the developers and Goverment officals are done making there money they will not care because they are not going to be around.Remember friends history repeats and this is another bad developing idea.

This politics just want to HAVE THE MONEY on their hands and overcharge and waste our tax money...
Personally I would love a BIKE PATH but a much smaller version, and a surface that can be skated on. (ala Venice beach or Boston Esplanade).
I envision a nicely landscaped much narrower trail (first stage) that unites Puntas to Domes "very carefully " , El Faro and Marias. and later goes near road 413 commerces to Tres Palmas, Balneario and of course the Pueblo ... It will serve an economic purpose, it will help commerce by making more commerces more easily accesible joining them ...
I guess all the fuss has been for naught as the city of Rincon probably doesn't have the money now for such a project. It would be nice to find a way to get some of the cars off the road, though.
